The boat show – can you smell the possibilities?

As regular readers of this column will know, this is the time of year when I get really excited - because the London Boat Show is about to open its doors.

Well we can all dream, can’t we?

Please accept my apologies – I know I’ve said this before but I do so love the start of a new year because it means that the London Boat Show is upon us – and it’s one of my favourite events of the year.

The Boat Show – lots more fun than Christmas

London Boat Show

Christmas is great – it’s lovely to spend time with family and friends and just relax for a day or two – but for me, the New Year is always a very special time.

Smells like happiness

When Lt Colonel Bill Kilgore, the character played by the wonderful Robert Duvall in Apocalypse Now, tried to express his feelings for the Vietnam War he said he loved the smell of napalm in the morning – it smelt like victory.

Docklands in January? ‘It’s redolent with the promise of summer…’

I love this time of year. Everybody is getting very excited in the build-up to Christmas, there are (with any luck) some of those glorious bright and crisp sunny winter days to lift the spirits and, most importantly, the London Boat Show is looming ever larger on the horizon.

Time for winter dreams

Christmas is a rapidly-fading memory, the New Year hangover has only just lifted, the huge credit card bills which were run up before the holiday are winging their way through the mail towards us and the reality of going back to work during the long cold winter months is starting to hit home - but, fear not, help to lift the gloom is at hand - the annual trip to the Boat Show.
